Boy Overturns Snowball Law

Boy Overturns Snowball Law

Boy Overturns Near Century Snowball Ban

This happy news story of a boy who overturned a near-century snowball ban is inspiring!

Here is the amazing true story of how nine years old, Dane Best who changed a nearly 100-year-old law in Severance, Colorado!

The inspiring Dane first learned of the technicality ban during a visit to the town hall of Severance, which is north of Denver. The outdated rule founded with the town was part of an old ordinance outlawing the “throwing of missiles, such as stones, at property or people”

Kyle Rietkerk, the assistant to the Severance town administrator, said

“All the kids always get blown away” when they find out was illegal to throw snowballs there, So, what ends up happening is [town leaders] always encourage the kids with, ‘You have the power you can change the law’. No one has,” he said.

Dane said he was encouraged to fight for the cause on behalf of his friends and other children. To lift the ban, Dane had to present to the local town board. During his confident three-minute presentations, he advocated for the right to have a little fun throwing snowballs saying…

“The children of Severance want the opportunity to have a snowball fight like the rest of the world, the law was created many years ago. Today’s kids need a reason to play outside.”

After the young and inspiring Dane Best’s presentation, the result was unanimous from officials, and the ban was officially lifted.

To celebrate this new winter freedom, the town’s mayor handed Dane and his four-year-old brother Dax the first legal snowballs in the town’s history.

Dane said his little brother would be his first target and that he would avoid breaking windows.

Derrick Best, Dane’s father, told CBS Denver the following: “We are proud of him for taking an initiative to make some change, no matter how small it may be,”

Watch a happy interview with Dane on Good Morning Britain below.

The Man Who Carved A Road Through A Mountain

The Man Who Carved A Road Through A Mountain

The Man Who Carved A Road Through A Mountain To Help His Village

This is the inspiring true story of an incredible human named Dashrash Manjh.

Armed with only a hammer, chisel, and crowbar he began carving what ended up being a 30-foot wide, 25-foot-deep passage through 360 feet of the mountain.

Tirelessly Dashrash kept working for 22 years. His true story of determination and hard work is truly a reminder for all of us humans young and old to persevere!

“God has given each individual the strength to make a dent in the universe!”

–  Dashrath Manjila

Dashrath Manji was a poor laborer from a small town called Gaya, in Eastern India who lived at the foothills of Gehlour hills. Because of this mountainous range, it was quite an isolated village. To reach the nearest town, one had to travel 70 km around the Gehlour Mountain.

One tragic life-changing day in 1960, Dashrath’s beloved wife Faguni Devi slipped and was injured while bringing him lunch to the farm where he worked. As there were no nearby hospitals she was not able to receive adequate medical treatment and soon died.

Dashrath was deeply hurt and saddened by his wife’s preventable death. He became determined no one else should suffer the same tragedy and resolved to build the road to make his village more accessible. He wanted his village could have easier access to medical attention at the town blocked by the mountain.

Initially, the heartbroken determined Dashrath was ridiculed by his villagers when he started hammering the hills with chisel, hammer, and shovel in his hand.. “When I started hammering the hill, people called me a lunatic but that steeled my resolve.” He would work all day at the farm and then head to the mountain to continue his mission. Slowly, people started to respect his ambition and started helping him by giving him food, water, and bought tools for him.

It took him an incredible 22 years of hard labor to carve the path into the mountain to carve the path into the mountain, changing the distance to the nearest town from 70km to 15 km!  Dashrath’s dream of people to have access to doctors, jobs, education, and opportunities had come true. Since finishing the road no villager has lost their loved one due to lack of timely treatment, no children remain illiterate like Manjhi with an accessible road good school nearby.

Robotics Students Come Through For Child In Need

Cillian Jackson was born with a genetic defect that has left him with impaired motor function. Prior to December, the youngster either had to be carried in a stroller or in his parents’ arms.

When Cillian’s parents started looking for ways to give their son more mobility, they found that motorized wheelchairs can cost thousands of dollars, and their insurance would not be able to cover the costs due to Cillian’s age.

The parents got creative and Cillian’s dad reached out to his old high school’s robotics team and asked for their help. The Rogue Robotics team at Farmington High School has won multiple awards for their ingenuity; so when they were faced with a project that could make a difference in the life of a 2-year-old boy, they did not hesitate to accept the challenge.

“I think we won here more than we do in our competitions,” one high school student said. Another team member said: “Instead of completing a task, we’re helping change someone’s life.”

Wheelchair Users Set Inspiring World Record

In an incredibly inspiring Guinness World Record achievement, 98 manual wheelchair users pulled a 128 tonne Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The Wheels4Wings record event raised awareness and thousands of dollars for Aerobility, a registered charity founded in 1993 offering disabled people, without exception, the opportunity to fly an airplane.

The wheelchair users of all types, shapes, and sizes were strapped together in nine lines of 11 users. Participants included security officers, volunteers and operational staff from across Heathrow, some of whom were not wheelchair users themselves.

Andy Knight organizer of the event and Heathrow aircraft operations manager said this of the record.

“As a wheelchair user myself, a former pilot and an aviation enthusiast, I am committed to supporting Aerobility and I am proud of the role Heathrow has taken to support its diversity and inclusion goals.”

“I hope today will see the team raise a lot of funds for Aerobility’s fantastic causes,  but also foster a greater awareness of the unique challenges people with disabilities face in aviation, and push for improvements for their benefit – whether they choose to be a passenger in an aircraft or at the controls.”

Words of Wisdom From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Words of Wisdom From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Words of Wisdom From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr Day just passed through the United States of America. It occurs on the third Monday in January. It has been an official national holiday since January 17th, 2000. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was an incredible figure in history. His words were powerful and full of charisma, he was an outstanding human always advocating in favor of equal and civil rights.

Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1954 until his assassination in 1968. Born in Atlanta, King is best known for advancing civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience.

King led the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott and in 1957 he became the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). With the SCLC, he led an unsuccessful 1962 struggle against segregation in Albany, Georgia, and helped organize the nonviolent 1963 protests in Birmingham, Alabama. He also helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

On October 14, 1964, King won the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolent resistance. In 1965, he helped organize the Selma to Montgomery marches. The following year, he and the SCLC took the movement north to Chicago to work on segregated housing. In his final years, he expanded his focus to include opposition to poverty and the Vietnam War. He alienated many of his liberal allies with a 1967 speech titled “Beyond Vietnam”. J. Edgar Hoover considered him a radical and made him an object of the FBI’s COINTELPRO from 1963 on. FBI agents investigated him for possible communist ties, recorded his extramarital liaisons and reported on them to government officials, and on one occasion mailed King a threatening anonymous letter, which he interpreted as an attempt to make him commit suicide.

In 1968, King was planning a national occupation of Washington, D.C., to be called the Poor People’s Campaign, when he was assassinated on April 4 in Memphis, Tennessee. His death was followed by riots in many U.S. cities. Allegations that James Earl Ray, the man convicted of killing King, and imprisoned, had been framed or acted in concert with government agents, persisted for decades after the shooting. Sentenced to 99 years in prison for King’s murder, effectively a life sentence as Ray was 41 at the time of conviction, Ray served 29 years of his sentence and died from hepatitis in 1998 while in prison.

King was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established as a holiday in numerous cities and states beginning in 1971; the holiday was enacted at the federal level by legislation signed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. Hundreds of streets in the U.S. have been renamed in his honor, and a county in Washington State was also rededicated for him. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was dedicated in 2011. – Wikipedia

Awards and Recognition

King was awarded at least fifty honorary degrees from colleges and universities. On October 14, 1964, King became the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to him for leading nonviolent resistance to racial prejudice in the U.S.In 1965, he was awarded the American Liberties Medallion by the American Jewish Committee for his “exceptional advancement of the principles of human liberty.” In his acceptance remarks, King said, “Freedom is one thing. You have it all or you are not free.”

In 1957, he was awarded the Spingarn Medal from the NAACP. Two years later, he won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for his book Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story. In 1966, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America awarded King the Margaret Sanger Award for “his courageous resistance to bigotry and his lifelong dedication to the advancement of social justice and human dignity.” Also in 1966, King was elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In November 1967 he made a 24-hour trip to the United Kingdom to receive an honorary degree from Newcastle University, being the first African-American to be so honoured by Newcastle. In a moving impromptu acceptance speech, he said

There are three urgent and indeed great problems that we face not only in the United States of America but all over the world today. That is the problem of racism, the problem of poverty and the problem of war.

In addition to being nominated for three GRAMMY Awards, the civil rights leader posthumously won for Best Spoken Word Recording in 1971 for “Why I Oppose The War In Vietnam”.

In 1977, the Presidential Medal of Freedom was posthumously awarded to King by President Jimmy Carter. The citation read:

Martin Luther King Jr. was the conscience of his generation. He gazed upon the great wall of segregation and saw that the power of love could bring it down. From the pain and exhaustion of his fight to fulfill the promises of our founding fathers for our humblest citizens, he wrung his eloquent statement of his dream for America. He made our nation stronger because he made it better. His dream sustains us yet.

King and his wife were also awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004.

King was second in Gallup’s List of Most Widely Admired People of the 20th Century. In 1963, he was named Time Person of the Year, and in 2000, he was voted sixth in an online “Person of the Century” poll by the same magazine. King placed third in the Greatest American contest conducted by the Discovery Channel and AOL.

Words of Wisdom – Eleanor Roosevelt

Words of Wisdom – Eleanor Roosevelt

Words of Wisdom – Eleanor Roosevelt

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962) was an American political figure, diplomat and activist. She served as the First Lady of the United States from March 1933 to April 1945 during her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office, making her the longest serving First Lady of the United States. Roosevelt served as United States Delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1945 to 1952. President Harry S. Truman later called her the “First Lady of the World” in tribute to her human rights achievements.

Though widely respected in her later years, Roosevelt was a controversial First Lady at the time for her outspokenness, particularly her stance on racial issues. She was the first presidential spouse to hold regular press conferences, write a daily newspaper column, write a monthly magazine column, host a weekly radio show, and speak at a national party convention. On a few occasions, she publicly disagreed with her husband’s policies. She launched an experimental community at Arthurdale, West Virginia, for the families of unemployed miners, later widely regarded as a failure. She advocated for expanded roles for women in the workplace, the civil rights of African Americans and Asian Americans, and the rights of World War II refugees. – Wikipedia

WORDS OF WISDOM – PRINCESS DIANA

Words Of Wisdom – Princess Diana

There can truly never be enough said about Princess Diana, a beautiful soul who inspired compassion around the world.

She was the revolutionary Princess who surprised the world by using her royal fame and influence tor to shine a light on people, animals, and causes in need. In fact, Diana was an active supporter of over 100 charities during her lifetime,

Her natural sympathy and oneness with patients were much admired, she helped bring awareness, understanding and destigmatize both aids and leprosy. In 1987, Princess Diana was one of the first well-known celebrities to be photographed with someone battling AIDS. An extremely important moment n changing attitudes to the disease.

Diana famously noted, “HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it.”

In January 1997, she famously walked through a former minefield during her International Campaign to Ban Landmines and drew attention to the lack of prostheses for victims. After her death, the Ottawa treaty was signed banning the use of anti-personnel landmines. Many agree that her support and role in the campaign played an important role in influencing this decision and she was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
