Cooking Outdoors In Antartica

Cooking Outdoors In Antartica

Antarctica Researcher Cooks Outdoors

These incredible photos of an Antarctica researcher cooking outdoors will truly make you appreciate your cozy warm home!

Highly adaptable with a good sense of humor glaciologist and astrobiologist Cyprien Verseux is spreading some smiles to the world by showcasing just how cold it is by cooking outside in the extreme environment.

Cyprien and his fellow small team of 13 including scientists, technicians, a cook, and a doctor live alone at the base in the depths of an Antarctic winter where even bacteria cannot survive.

It is the coldest area on Earth, with temperatures reaching below -80°C in winter!

“Nine months a year, during the winter, it cannot be left or reached,” Cyprien told Bored Panda.

“It is so cold that vehicles can’t come and go. We are currently 13 people: technicians, scientists, a cook, and a medical doctor. “We run out of fresh food early in the winter (as we have no resupply from early February to early November), so we eat mostly frozen food: given that the temperatures never are in the positive, we just store it in containers outside.”

Houses That Look Like Faces

Houses That Look Like Faces

Houses That Look Like Faces

This happy collection of houses that look like they have faces will make you smile back. Who knew houses could be so expressive!

If you have ever found yourself looking at a house and seeing a face, you are not alone!

In fact, there is even an Ancient Greek word to describe it, Pareidolia parr-i-doh-lee-ə)

Pareidolia is when the human brain perceives familiar patterns in a stimulus, even when those patterns are not really there.
Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, the classic “man in the moon”, and the famous “moon rabbit”.As well as hidden messages within recorded music played in reverse or at higher- or lower-than-normal speeds.

Whether these funny expressions on these houses were intentional or not, one thing is for sure they will most likely make you smile too!

“A smile is a universal welcome.” Max Eastman

In The Land Of The Northern Lights

Many of us have dreamed of getting to see the magical Northern Lights flickering in the sky.
Get a glimpse of what it’s like to experience the Northern Lights with this incredible time-lapse footage shot in Norway by landscape photographer Ole Salomonsen

“I have spent over 6 months collecting footage for this, I have shot approx. 50.000 stills to choose from in making this video.

A goal for me has been to try to preserve the real-time speed of the northern lights or come as close as possible, and present it the way I experienced it.” –  Ole Salomonsen
