The Apparently Kid Steals The Show

The Apparently Kid Steals The Show

The Apparently Kid Steals The Show

This is a classic cute kiddo clip from 2014 that is still good for a grin!

While Newswatch 16’s Sofia Ojeda was reporting at the Wayne County Fair, young (and adorable) Noah Ritter from Wilkes-Barre stole the show during an interview. Noah was five years old and very excited to be starting kindergarten in the fall.

His hilarious interview was a viral hit, getting him airtime on The Ellen show, late night talk shows, a commercial and a spot T.V. show called “The Toy Box” where the kids review toys.

World’s Oldest Barber Turns 107

Anthony Mancinelli who turned 107 years old this year takes pride and joy in being the world’s oldest barber.

Born in 1911 near Naples, Italy, and eight years later sailed to the United States with his family, arriving in New York on September 11, 1919 and began cutting hair at just ten years old in 1921. He remembers it well, recalling how a haircut only cost you 25 cents.

He has now worked at that barbershop for an incredible 97 years! When asked about retirement, he replied, “Why would I?”

He’s considered one of the most reliable employees at the salon, cutting hair five days a week for 8 hours a day.

“He never calls in sick,” Fantastic Cuts owner Jane Dinezza said. “I have young people with knee and back problems, but he just keeps going. He can do more haircuts than a 20-year-old kid. They’re sitting there looking at their phones, texting or whatever, and he’s working.”

Comic Feature – Rube Goldberg

Comic Feature – Rube Goldberg

Comic Feature – Rube Goldberg

Rube Goldberg was an inventor, an engineer, and a sculptor and multi-award-winning cartoonist who drew incredible and amusing contraptions. His Rube Goldberg machines live on to this day in physics classes and popular media. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 for his editorial cartoon “Peace Today which conveyed a warning against atomic weapons.

Rube Goldberg was born to Jewish parents on July 4, 1883 in San Fransisco. He began drawing at a young age, to such an extent that his parents arranged professional drawing lessons for him at the age of 11. His father encouraged him to study engineering and he earned a degree from the University of California in 1904. He took a job designing sewer pipes for the San Francisco Sewer Department

A few months later he became a sportswriter and cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Bulletin. He also briefly worked for the New York Evening Mail, creating three long-running comic strips. His most popular drawings depicted complex gadgets that performed even the simplest tasks in convoluted, elaborate ways, known as Rube Goldberg machines.

Rube was fascinated by the advancement of technology and thought it humorous as people either embraced change and the benefits technology brought or were reluctant as it seemingly increased dependency and laziness. He personally believed people preferred choosing a more difficult route instead of completing a goal simply and directly.

As he said, “the machines are a symbol of man’s capacity for exerting maximum effort to achieve minimal results”

His inventions were interesting as he did the complete opposite of what most machines do – instead of making difficult things easy, he made easy things difficult. On his “Rube Goldberg Machine” work, he would spend over 30 hours on each piece with close attention to precision regarding the lines and details. n his cartoons, they were created by a character called Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts.

The National Cartoonists Society, in which Goldberg was the first president, named the Rueben Award in his honour, to recognize the “Cartoonist of the Year”.He also received several awards from the National Cartoonists Society including the Gold T-Square Award in 1955, the 1969 Rueben Award and the Gold Key Award, after his death in 1970. To further add to this list of accomplishments, he won the Banshee’s Silver Lady Award in 1959, he was a co-founder of the Famous Artists School , President of the Artists and Writers Club and a member of the Society of Illustrators. To this day high schools and universities worldwide, there are Rube Goldberg contests which challenge students to create intricate machines to do easy tasks

“I do not count the years. Tomorrow is just another day to create something I hope will be worthwhile.” Rube Goldberg

The term could be used in a completely neutral manner, but most of the time a doppelganger signifies the presence of an evil twin or some other dark mischief. SOURCE SO BAD SO GOOD

Bob Ross: Words Of Wisdom

Bob Ross: Words Of Wisdom

Words Of Wisdom – Bob Ross

Bob Ross, the painter, and television personality was an endearing, soothing, and extremely prolific artist who purportedly completed 30,000 paintings during his lifetime. What made this especially likable and talented painter truly different is that he truly believed that all of us could also be artists.

Ross’s gentle voice and warm demeanor captured the hearts of humans of all ages and artists of all levels worldwide. Bob spent 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of master sergeant before transitioning into the happy painter we know today. He is quoted as saying “after yelling so much in the Air Force; he never wanted to yell at anyone again.”

As Robert Frost famously said “Way leads unto Way” and the Alaskan Mountains where he was stationed became iconic features in his paintings. While stationed there Ross indulged his creative side by painting his landscapes onto golden pans, which he sold for $25 each. Today, they can fetch as much as $7500 on eBay.

One of Bob Ross’s biggest influences was a German painter named Bill Alexander who hosted an art instruction show on PBS “The Magic of Oil Painting. He shared his “wet-on-wet” oil painting technique. Ross ended up studying under Alexander, who became his mentor in the early 1980s, and as Alexander was preparing to retire, he asked Ross to take over teaching his painting classes. Ross agreed and set out to tour the country on his own in a motor home, traveling and teaching people.

One of his students Annette Kowalski recognized his gentle and powerful positivity while taking a five-day instructional course with Ross in 1982. She became Ross’s manager, helping him broker the deal for The Joy of Painting television show with PBS. Despite its incredible popularity Bob Ross did the series for free, while his income came from Bob Ross Inc. which sold art supplies and how-to videotapes, taught classes, and even had a troupe of traveling art instructors who roamed the world teaching painting.

It’s been nearly 25 years since the sincere, gentle and very talented Bob Ross passed. His encouraging artistic mentor style continues to spread smiles and inspiration to artists of all ages. Below is just a few of some of his many magical quotes and a classic clip from his show. SOURCES MENTAL FLOSS, WIKIPEDIA & BIOGRAPHY
