Happy Kazoo Day

With great anticipation, it is now time to wish all of you a happy kazoo day!

Did you know that January 28th is officially Kazoo Day?

The kazoo, also known as the “Down-South Submarine,” has deep roots.  Similar types of instruments were long been used for ceremonial purposes in Africa in the 1840s.

African-American Alabama Vest and clock-maker Thaddeus Von Clegg was the musical hero who reworked and made into the kazoo into the fun-loving instrument we know it as today.

Folks of all ages fell in love with the uplifting sounds of the Kazoo, but commercial production of the Kazoo wouldn’t begin until 1912.

In honor of this very special day of Kazoos, below is a brief history of the kazoo and an awesome retro Kazoo commercial from 1989.

This video was created by Boaz, a curator of the Kazoo Museum.

“Sometimes Boaz hosts bicycle talk shows, sometimes Boaz makes short films and sometimes Boaz makes other things.”

This kid sure does love his kazoo, if nothing else you might get a laugh from this retro video.

“Remember, cuz you can do anything with a kazoo.”

This hilarious throwback video is from Dead VCR.
